See you all there!

Live music and dance tonight; no dance next Monday
I just wanted to remind everyone that Celtic Crossroads is scheduled to play downtown this evening at 6:00 pm. Come on out for live music and dancing! ^_^ Details from Debbie are below.
Also, our members voted last Monday to cancel dance this coming week (April 21st) so that we can all go see Jimmy Crowley & Máirtín de Cógáin (of the Fuchsia Band) at the Peck House on Pearl Street at 6 pm. Tickets for that event are $10 for USM students, $12 for others. All the information is available here
. Dance will meet again the following Monday, April 28th.
Hope to see everyone tonight!
I just wanted to let you know that we (Celtic
Crossroads) will be having a concert in Town Square
Park (across from Main Street Books and Walnut Circle
Grill) on April 18. I'm going to offer basic ceili
dance lessons to anybody interested from 5:30-6:00 PM,
and then we'll start the music at 6:00. We're trying
to build up a base of people interested in Irish
dancing so that we might eventually have a real ceili.
During the concert on April 18, we might get people
to do a few simple dances if there's enough interest.
Anyway, please tell anybody that you think might want
to know. Everything is FREE, and there will be food
available to purchase.

Just a quick reminder...dance meets every Monday evening at 5:30 in the Student Center behind St. Thomas church on W. 4th St., across from the USM Coliseum. Anyone in the Hattiesburg area is welcome to attend. There are no fees and there is no experience necessary.

No dance for the next few weeks.
Just to let you all know, we won't be meeting for dance this afternoon. Spring term has ended, and we'll begin dance again after Summer term starts. Our next meeting will be Monday June 4th at 5:30 p.m.
Hope to see you all there! Current Mood: working

Spring Semester Welcome Back!
After a long winter's break, we are starting dance again this afternoon at 5:30! Come one, come all, and bring a friend. After dance this evening we'll be hanging posters around campus and around town. Even if you can't make it to dance, you can help us out by printing out a poster and hanging it anyplace you have access to.
In other news, there will be two major events happening on St. Patrick's Day. The Irish Italian Festival will be taking place that afternoon and evening behind St. Thomas Church. Debbie & Daniel's band Celtic Crossroads
will be playing there, and it will be a fun chance for us to get some dancing in to the music of an excellent live band.
And later that night, Jim Flanagan will finally
be playing again at the Thirsty Hippo in downtown Hattiesburg. The shows usually start at 9:00, but you can call the Hippo at 601-583-9188 to verify dates and times. You can also call that same number after the show to tell them how much you want to see Jim Flanagan play there more often. ^_^
See you all soon!( Poster under cut...click it to reach the full-size image.Collapse ) Current Mood: bouncy

Such an Irish month!
Long time no post.
Happy belated St. Patrick's Day to all! I hope everyone had a very fun and festive day. ^_^
The 5th Annual St. Thomas Irish-Italian Fest was on Saturday, and there was a Celtic musical concert-type thingy (not its official name, I assure you) that was held at the Saenger Theater in Hattiesburg on Sunday. It was a very Irish weekend all around.
Apologies to all for not posting about those events here in advance. Shall try not to let future events slip through that way.
Danny O'Flaherty was the feature performer at both events, with adition performances by the local group Celtic Crossroads at the I/I Fest, and Jim Flanagan at the Saenger.
Good news for the group:
We seem to be gaining new members. Last week we met at St. Thomas at 5:15 on Thursday (which is our new meeting time until further notice), and we had a total of 6 dancers, 4 of whom were first timers!
They all seemed excited, so hopefully they will be coming back. And others have been asking me about the group as well. Now if only we could get some of our old blood back into the group, we'll be rockin'!
Ok, gotta get back to work now. Y'all take care.Siochain

We're actually going to!
Apologies for the late notice. We made the decision Tuesday, and I just got definite confirmation today from my mom about use of the church.
We're meeting Thursday (tomorrow for those still up late, today for those who go to bed at decent hours) at 5:15 at St. Thomas.
I *think* we will have use of the Student Center, but I'm unsure if that is definite. In any case, we will have use of some meeting place at the church, even if it ends up being the Parish Hall.
We haven't danced in ages. Well, at least I haven't. If you're able to come, please be there! In addition to actually dancing, we should probably talk about a permanent meeting schedule for the rest of the semester.
No specific ending time is set for this meeting. We'll meet and we'll dance, and we can stay until our feet are ready to fall off as far as I'm concerned.
Be there if you can! Take care, and I hope to see you soon!

To anyone still interested in Irish Dance in Hattiesburg
I will get around to emailing to soon, but for now I'm just posting here.
As of the moment, we are still without a location because of the storm. If you have any ideas, please let me know. I would love to get back into dancing again as soon as possible.
I'm sure that eventually, St. Thomas will be open to us again, though at the moment, it is still a mess from functioning as a distribution center after Katrina.
Also, thus far our regular meeting day has been Monday. And unless I'm mistaken, october_eve
's off days still primarily fall on Mondays and Thursdays.
I may also be having to take a night class from 6:30-9:15 on Mondays. So, if we keep meeting on Mondays, I won't be able to get there until probably 5:15 (off of work @ 5), and I'll need to be gone by no later than 6:15.
I'm up for any suggestions, y'all. Current Mood: busy

You all need to get your tails over to dance, yo. We need some bodies there today! I feel like gettin' jiggy. heh.
P.S. Instead of the usual student center, we'll be dancing in the parish hall of the main building. Current Mood: bouncy

Apologies all around for not having gotten this out sooner. We ARE having dance today. (Good grief, June snuck up on me.)
Usual place, usual time, etc, etc.
I hope to see you there! =)

Dance will still be held tomorrow, but in lieu of exams and the student center being previously reserved for study space, it has been moved.
But not to worry. Come to the same parking lot, but turn around and go to the other
building. Dance will be in the Parish Hall. If I'm not there (which I likely won't be... at least not for most of it) I will at least leave the folder of dances, the cd, and I will make sure that there is a boom box for use. The door at the corner of the building should be unlocked. I will put up a sign if I have the chance.
Y'all have fun! I'll see if I can't take a break for a little while and join y'all for a bit.

Wheee! Dance was fun! There were only 5 of us, but it was really fun 'n' stuff! And then we went to Chili's and I ate too much. *groan*
More people need to come Thursday! Yes!
*shakes finger in a lecturing sort of way* Shame shame if you weren't studying and just didn't come. But definitely come Thursday! yes!

I had SO MUCH FUN yesterday at my first Irish Dance class. My calves hurt just a wee bit, and that's GREAT to me!
I'm not a small person, and I've been trying to find a good exercise that I can do and be entertained doing, because just walking or doing the stairclimber or an aerobics class isn't cutting it.
Sitting at home, dancing along with the Zumba!
DVD's just doesn't cut it, either. I'm all by myself and it's no fun!
Sooooooooooo.....Here I have found IRISH DANCING! Yay!
I am also hoping to maybe find a belly-dancing group or something equally as fun, so that at least during the summer I can keep myself occupied and exercising. It'll be harder once school starts back up, but I can do it!
If anyone knows of any other dance groups or anything similar that would be fun, let me know!

Hiya! Welcome 'n' such.
Yay for new communities!
Not too much to say at the moment, except a reminder that we will not be dancing this coming Thursday. But, we will be meeting again at the usual time on Monday.
